Our daughter has been tutoring with Julie Knight for approximately 1 year now.  During that time we have seen a transformation, our daughter is now confident in sounding out words, and has improved greatly on reading fluency and reading comprehension. She has been getting 80% -100% accuracy on her spelling tests! Julie keeps a routine throughout the lesson so the kids know what to expect.  She introduces interesting subjects for the reading sections. Best of all she has that quality that only special teachers have where she really connects with the kids.   I'm so happy that through her work with Julie Knight our daughter is now reading for pleasure.  The tutoring has made a world of difference for our daughter.  

When we first contracted with Julie Knight, our daughter was in 4th grade. She had been in reading intervention at school since 1st grade and was testing well below grade level.  As she grew and became more aware, this began affecting her in other ways as well.  She knew she was behind in her class and would select library books that were beyond her level just to fit in which did not help with actually practicing reading.  She would become nervous if she had to read in class and developed mannerisms like swallowing excessively while reading to buy time which only made the reading that much more disjointed.  When we would get her to read which was always a fight, she would physically tire easily due to the cognitive effort it took her. The school did what they could but it became apparent we needed more help.  With some help, we found she has a processing delay learning disability and a typical tutor that simply taught through repetition might not be the right choice.  We contacted and "interviewed" several organizations.  Julie was the right fit.
